According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, almost 5,000 workers were killed while at work in 2014. Another three million workers suffered nonfatal illnesses and injuries due to work environments and construction accidents. The vast majority of work fatalities occur in the construction industry.
In New York, it seems like a construction worker is hurt on the job every week. They are seriously injured and sometimes the accident leads to their death. Innocent people who are simply trying to walk by the construction site are injured as well. For instance, in February, a woman was hit with a piece of plywood that blew off a fence at a construction site and she died.
