Hit-and-run driver kills woman after ignoring stop sign

A car accident that took place in New York City on July 17 resulted in a 40-year-old woman's death. The deceased woman's 9-year-old daughter survived the crash but was taken to the hospital for treatment of critical injuries. A 58-year-old man who is suspected of causing the fatal car crash was arrested and charged for several crimes.

The multi-vehicle car accident happened in the South Ozone Park neighborhood in Queens near the intersection of 130th Street and 115th Avenue. According to a police report, the at-fault driver was traveling westbound along 115th Avenue in a BMW X5 when he drove through a stop sign without stopping and struck a Toyota Corolla that was going northbound. After hitting the Corolla, the BMW driver proceeded to hit three other cars before the driver stopped and fled the scene.

The impact of the first collision caused the mother and daughter in the Corolla to be ejected from their car. The mother was declared dead at the scene. When the at-fault driver was eventually detained, he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, leaving the scene of an accident causing death and other charges.

A driver who causes a fatal car crash as a result of reckless behavior is likely to face criminal charges. People who were injured in the accident may also file their own civil lawsuits against the driver, regardless of how the criminal case resolves. A lawyer may help an injured car accident victim or the family of a deceased car accident victim to seek compensation from the at-fault driver.
